Unity and GameMaker Support Tizen Platform

Unity Engine

Unity has announced that it will be supporting the Tizen OS when it is released later this year. Tizen is an open-source, Linux-based mobile operating system. This news follows soon after the GameMaker development system announced support for the new tablet and smartphone platform.

“Unity and Tizen have a lot in common in that they both aim to make the creation and the deployment of games and other apps as easy as possible for developers.” Unity Technologies CEO David Helgason said.

YoYo Games, who develop GameMaker: Studio, agree.

“We strongly believe that Tizen will be a significant platform for mobile and other devices and we’re keen to show our early commitment to the platform,” says CEO Sandy Duncan.

The Tizen Developers Conference is just wrapping up in San Francisco, where attendees were able to demo the new software. Since their recent annoucement of free mobile platforms, we assume that the ability to build for Tizen will be available for free in Unity. GameMaker announced that GameMaker for Tizen will be included for Master Collection versions, but users of the Professional version will need to purchase the Tizen Export module after the software leaves beta.

Additional information can be found on the Unity and Tizen websites.
