Since Unreal Engine 4 was recently announced and made available on subscription, a number of training videos for various features (such as Blueprint) have been made available. Additionally, a couple tweets today have announced additional resources for potential Unreal Developers.

Substance Plug-in for Unreal Engine 4

Allegorithmic has released a beta plug-in for Unreal Engine 4, allowing developers to integrate the Substance Engine with UE4. This allows users to import Substance files into their UE4 project, expose the substance’s parameters, and allow users to tweak them in engine and have the Substance Engine recompute all the output texture maps. The plug-in can be downloaded for free from Github.

Substance is a texturing tool that can quickly and easily provide high-quality textures for a variety of models and landscapes. Below you can see a tutorial of how to use thie new Substance plug-in for UE4.

In related news, Epic Games will be hosting free live Unreal Developer sessions on Thursday! Unreal Developer Day is made up of two half day sessions, available for attendees at the Staffordshire University in the United Kingdom. Epic invites anyone with an active subscription to attend this first-ever Unreal Developer Day on a first come, first served basis. Epic’s engineering, design and support team members will provide insight into the latest tools and technologies, as well as a look into the future of the Unreal Engine.
